Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 2, 2026
This privacy policy explains what information we collect when you visit casandchary.com (Exploded View by Cas and Chary), why, and what your choices are. “We” and “us” means Cas and Chary. We keep it simple: we collect as little as we can.
Questions? Email us at hello@casandchary.com.
What we collect
When you visit the site. Like every website, our hosting provider (TransIP, in the Netherlands) receives technical information when you load a page: your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for and the time. It’s used to deliver the site and keep it secure, and kept only for a limited time.
When you send us a message. The contact form sends us your name, email address, company (optional), the topic you chose and your message, by email. We use them only to answer you, keep them in our mailbox for as long as the conversation needs, and never use them for marketing or add you to a mailing list. To stop spam, the form counts messages per visitor for one hour, using a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address that is deleted after that hour.
When you email us directly. We use your email only to reply to you.
We don’t have user accounts, we don’t sell your information, and we don’t show ads.
Cookies and analytics
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) to see how the site is used, for example which pages are read and how visitors find us. It only runs after you click “Accept” in our cookie banner. It then sets cookies (_ga and ga…) for up to two years and sends information about your visit, including your IP address, to Google, which may process it in the United States. If you choose “Only necessary”, Google Analytics doesn’t load and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page; withdrawing your consent also removes the analytics cookies. We remember your choice for 12 months.
Settings stored in your browser. Your cookie choice and your light or dark mode setting are saved in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device and are never sent to us.
We don’t use any other cookies, tracking pixels or advertising trackers. Our fonts are hosted on our own server.
YouTube videos and thumbnails
Our articles and video pages show thumbnails of our videos, loaded from YouTube’s servers (operated by Google). Loading these images shares your IP address and browser details with Google, without setting cookies. A video itself only loads when you press play, in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com); from then on, Google’s privacy policy applies to the video.
Links to other websites
Our posts link to other websites, and some of those links are affiliate links: if you buy something through one, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. Posts with affiliate links say so. Once you click a link, that website’s own privacy policy applies, and shops or affiliate networks may use cookies to register that you came from us.
Media kit for brands
Brands we work with get a personal link to our media kit. When it’s opened, we log the date, which link was used and a scrambled (hashed) IP address, so we know which brands viewed it.
Why we’re allowed to use your information
Under the European privacy law (GDPR) we rely on:
- your consent for Google Analytics, which you can withdraw at any time;
- answering your request when you contact us;
- our legitimate interest in running a secure website and keeping out spam.
Who receives your information
Only the services we need to run the site: our hosting provider (TransIP), our email provider (for messages you send us), and Google (for Google Analytics, only with your consent, and for YouTube thumbnails and videos). Google may process data outside the European Union; it does so under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Messages: as long as the conversation needs, then deleted. Spam protection: one hour. Google Analytics: Google keeps analytics data for the period set in our account, at most 14 months. Hosting logs: a limited time, for security.
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct or delete the information we have about you, to limit how we use it, or to object to its use, and you can withdraw your consent for analytics at any time. Email hello@casandchary.com and we’ll answer within a month. If you live in the European Union, you can also file a complaint with your data protection authority; in the Netherlands that’s the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
If you live in the United States, including California and Virginia: we don’t sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we don’t use it for profiling. You have the right to know what we collect, to ask us to delete it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. Email us to make a request.
Children
Our site is meant for a general audience and not aimed at children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child sent us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top.
