Steam Machine unboxing: Valve’s €1,039 / $1,049 (512GB) SteamOS living room PC with 6 Zen 4 cores, a 28 CU AMD RDNA 3 GPU, 16GB DDR5 plus 8GB GDDR6 VRAM, 512GB or 2TB storage and 4K60 gaming with FSR.
It isn’t a console. It’s a small Linux PC that boots into Steam like one, and Valve’s store page says you can install your own apps or another OS entirely. It’s also built to stream to the Steam Frame VR headset, which hasn’t shipped yet. The Machine plus Frame video happens the moment it does. Until then I’m starting with the VR hardware I already have.
Would you rather pay €1,039 for a box you actually own, or €500 for a console that owns you?
